I have just booked a 41-night fly cruise on the "Balmoral" departing in January 2012. This will be rather more than half of the ship's cruise around South America. I am booked on this cruise. Has anyone who has cruised with Fred. Olsen to the ports of Nessbar, Odessa, Sevastapol and Yalta any views on the shore excursions on offer? Is it preferable to take tours at these ports or easier to do your own thing?;)

And yes, I know this can't remotely be classed as 'Cruising Soon', but we've now had the official confirmation that, all being well, we'll be travelling to the far north in 2012. This is the first time we've booked so far ahead, but with such an unusual itinerary we decided to go for it.

I understand that there is a wave of industrial action across Norway which is affecting the cruise calls in Oslo. Does anyone know if other Norwegian ports are affected and has is it having any impact of the fairly intensive cruise programme which Fred. Olsen have to Scandinavia?

It was good to read that two passengers from the the Braemar were lifted to hospital whilst the ship was in the Scilly Isles. One such rescue isn't unusual but two separate rescues from the same ship at the same location must be some sort of record.

Glad to read that all the work carried out on the "Bouidicca" has been successful. Understand it had a "bug-free" cruise recently. As this is generally a Winter illness hoefully it will die down at least for a few months.

I saw on the Fred. Olsen website that all the passengers boarding the latest cruise in Barbados reached the "Braemar" on time. However, they advise that the passengers leaving the ship are stranded in Barbados and have been put up in local hotels. Has anyone heard if they have left for home yet?...

"Balmoral" goes into dock on her return from the world cruise next week. Does anyone know what work is being carried out. I hope they are sorting out the "picture" windows some of which have rusty surrounds and spoil the decor of the cabins.
